Weeds in situations of intensive herbicide use have the ability to select biotypes that are less susceptible to them. The study of differential susceptibility allows us to determine whether the increase in weed frequency is due to herbicide resistance or issues in their application.. To determine the differential susceptibility of every biotype being studied, the fresh weight of the air part of every plant was used. This value was expressed as a percentage of the plants without any treatment and adapting every biotypes to a logistic model of four parameters. The main objective of this study was to quantify the susceptibility of two biotypes of E. indica from northern Buenos Aires to pre (s-metolachlor) and post (glyphosate, haloxyfop and clethodim) emergence herbicides. Our results indicate that in order to obtain a 50% of biomass reduction of Paraiso biotype, a higher dose of glyphosate is needed when compared to the dose needed for San Pedro biotype, although this biomass did not have any significant statistical differences. In contrast, in order to obtain similar biomass reduction in San Pedro biotype, it was necessary to apply 5.7 times more than the dose of haloxyfop needed for the Paraiso biotype, although this did not have any significant statistical differences. Sensitivity to glyphosate and haloxyfop is high in both biotypes. Finally, when E. indica was treated with clethodim and s-metolachlor the minimum dose was sufficient to obtain a complete control.

The objective of this work is to implement an integrated eriophyid management system in the crop, which rationalizes acaricide applications to protect beneficial fauna. Periodic monitoring of pest mites and their natural enemy, Agistemus aimogastaensis, and fruit damage was carried out. According to the data obtained, in winter, mites are found in leaf lesions and apical buds of vigorous shoots at the base of the tree trunk and, in lesser numbers, in the canopy. A. oleae was significantly more prevalent than O. maxwelli. Their natural enemy, A. aimogastaensis, was recorded primarily in apical buds and leaf folds. The management strategy that emerged from these observations integrates cultural control, which consists of shoot removal with winter chemical control of canopy mites using contact acaricides that preserve natural enemies sheltered in the apical buds. In spring, when eriophyids are detected in inflorescences, the application of a translaminar, or systemic acaricide treatment should be evaluated to target the pest in protected flower/fruit locations. Experiences with the proposed application shows excellent results in damage reduction and environmental impact assessment.

Cerutti, Diego Ezequiel
Echinochloa colona (L.) Link y Eleusine tristachya (Lam.) Lamarck are weeds that occupy a large part of the agricultural area of Argentina. Pre-emergent herbicides are necessary to control these species. There is little information regarding the interaction of the effect of a herbicide with the presence of stubble on the surface, the amount and timing of incorporation rain. The objectives of this work were i) quantify the efficiency of pyroxasulfone, S-metolachlor and imazethapyr for the pre-emergence control of Echinochloa colona and Eleusine tristachya and ii) determine the effect of stubble, the amount of rain for incorporation, the moment of a rain for incorporation and its interactions, on the pre-emergence control of pyroxasulfone, S-metolachlor and imazethapyr. In pots, seeds of E. colona and E. tristachya were sown, the herbicides were applied with and without wheat stubble on the surface, with rainfall of 5 and 20 mm and incorporation moments at 5, 15 and 30 days after application. The percentage of control was determined based on the number of plants emerged in each treatment, and their respective control. The stubble was the main factor that reduced the herbicide effect. S-metolachlor had good control in both species, but in E. colona it reduced its herbicidal action due to the interaction between stubble and incorporation time. Pyroxasulfone satisfactorily controlled E. colona and E. tristachya, although in both weeds it reduced its action due to the interaction of stubble and the amount of rain for incorporation. Imazetaphyr only effectively controlled E. colona in the absence of stubble.

Estos hallazgos sugieren que la resistencia podría estar asociada con cambios en la estructura de la enzima AHAS, constituyendo el primer reporte de resistencia de Rapistrum rugosum a herbicidas en Argentina.; The grass mustard, Rapistrum rugosum (L.) Alloni, is a plant of the Brassicaceae family, native to the Mediterranean basin and western Asia, which is present in winter crops such as wheat and rapeseed in Entre Ríos, Argentina. In managing weeds in wheat crops, herbicides that inhibit the enzyme acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS), essential for synthesizing branched-chain amino acids, are commonly used. However, the repeated use of herbicides with the same mechanism of action can lead to the development of resistant biotypes. This work had the objectives of analyzing the sensitivity of a suspected resistant biotype of R. rugosum (Espinillo) to metsulfuron-methyl, imazethapyr and diclosulam, determining its resistance factor and comparing the enzymatic activity of AHAS with a susceptible biotype (Colonia Ensayo). Field trials indicated that the Espinillo biotype showed low sensitivity to herbicides. Furthermore, dose/response studies confirmed high levels of resistance, evidencing cross-resistance between the herbicides evaluated. The enzymatic activity of AHAS showed that to achieve a 50% inhibition in the Espinillo biotype, a concentration 500 times higher than that of the sensitive biotype was needed. These findings suggest that resistance could be associated with changes in the structure of the AHAS enzyme, constituting the first report of resistance of Rapistrum rugosum to herbicides in Argentina.
