El narrador no confiable: relatos de Borges, Bioy Casares y Butti desde una perspectiva comparada

Abstract

El presente trabajo de investigación propone el abordaje y análisis de un corpus literario conformado por tres cuentos pertenecientes al sistema literario argentino: “Hombre de la esquina rosada” (1935) de Jorge Luis Borges, “El perjurio de la nieve” (1944) de Adolfo Bioy Casares y “Exorcismo, el póstumo ‘J’accuse’ de Raúl Vadefora” (2006) de Enrique Butti. Las tres narraciones se caracterizan por llevar a cabo una inscripción difusa, flexible, dentro del género policial. No obstante, el punto de convergencia más relevante se encuentra constituido por el hecho de que en los tres relatos tiene lugar la configuración del narrador no confiable (unreliable narrator). En el presente trabajo de investigación se va a entender al narrador no confiable como una figura que desbarata presupuestos literarios como el “pacto de ficción” propiciando, de esta manera, la renovación de la narrativa. La hipótesis en relación a este corpus literario es que el carácter performativo de los narradores de estos cuentos tiene una incidencia específica dentro del sistema literario argentino y que, a su vez, dicha performatividad abreva en configuraciones anteriores del narrador no confiable que han tenido lugar en distintas literaturas del mundo. Por este motivo, el enfoque comparatista se presenta como especialmente pertinente a los fines de poner en perspectiva los cuentos de Borges, Bioy Casares y Butti. Por ende, el recorrido de la presente investigación contemplará también el detenimiento en las distintas configuraciones del narrador no confiable que se puede apreciar en autores como Henry James, Robert Walser, Agatha Christie, Vladimir Nabokov y Carlo Emilio Gadda.

The following research proposes the approach and analysis of a literary corpus consisting of three short stories belonging to the Argentine literary system: “Hombre de la esquina rosada” (1935) by Jorge Luis Borges, “El perjurio de la nieve” (1944) by Adolfo Bioy Casares and “Exorcismo, el póstumo ‘J’accuse’ de Raúl Vadefora” (2006) by Enrique Butti. These three narratives are characterized by carrying out a diffuse, flexible inscription within detective fiction. However, the most relevant point of convergence in all three stories is constituted by the presence of the unreliable narrator. In this research, the unreliable narrator will be understood as a figure that disrupts literary assumptions such as the “fictional pact”, thus promoting the renewal of literature. The hypothesis regarding this literary corpus is that the performative nature of the narrators of these short stories has a specific impact within the Argentine literary system. And, at the same time, that such performativity builds on earlier configurations of the unreliable narrator that have appeared in various literatures around the world. For this reason, the comparative approach is especially relevant to put the stories of Borges, Bioy Casares and Butti into perspective. Therefore, the scope of the present research will also include a close examination of the various configurations of the unreliable narrator that can be observed in authors such as Henry James, Robert Walser, Agatha Christie, Vladimir Nabokov and Carlo Emilio Gadda.
