| es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | Mental health of telecommunications workers according to work modality during the COVID-19 pandemic Objective: To identify and compare the prevalence and severity of anxiety, depression, and stress symptoms, as well as modifications in unhealthy lifestyle habits, among telecommunications workers based on their work modality (in-person vs. telework) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology: A descriptive, observational, and comparative study conducted in Santa Fe, Argentina (July–August 2021). The sample comprised 120 employees (60.8% in-person and 39.2% telework; 70% female; mean age 37.5 years; 95% C.I., 7% margin of error). A sociodemographic questionnaire and the short-form DASS-21 (Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale) were administered, along with an assessment of alcohol, tobacco consumption, and physical activity levels. Results: Female workers showed greater symptom severity across all subscales. Regarding work modality, in-person work exhibited the highest levels of psychological distress: 21.7% reported severe/extremely severe depression (vs. 13.3% in telework) and 17.5% presented extremely severe anxiety (vs. 6.7% in telework). Overall, 26 workers (21.7%) reported extremely severe anxiety and 20 (16.7%) extremely severe depression. Regarding lifestyle habits, 55% of alcohol consumers working in-person increased their intake (vs. 33% in telework), whereas the increase in tobacco consumption was higher among teleworkers (50% vs. 30%). Additionally, 60% of the total sample reduced their physical activity. Conclusion: Levels of anxiety, depression, and stress exhibited high variability and were associated with work modality and gender. The DASS-21 scale proved to be an effective screening tool for managing occupational health intervention programs. | en_EN |
