The objective of this work was to describe the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of canines with infectious gastroenteritis treated in veterinary clinics in the district of Villa El Salvador, Lima-Peru, during the year 2019. 384 medical records of canines with a diagnosis of gastroenteritis were analyzed. viral, bacterial and parasitic. The disease occurred more frequently in male patients (n=194; 50,5%), mixed breeds (n=259; 67,4%) of small size (n= 190; 49,5%) aged between 1 and 3 months (n=207; 53,9%) and without vaccine protection (n=139; 36,2%). The most common clinical signs were profuse diarrhea and dehydration (n=384; 100%), anorexia and abdominal pain (n=380; 99,0%), transparent vomiting (n=276; 97,9%) (n=329; 87,5%) and sparkling (n=254; 67,6%). Brown and bloody diarrhea (n=113; 99,1%) were predominant in viral infections and green diarrhea in bacterial infections (n=174; 69%). The present study shows that infectious gastroenteritis continues to be a common disease in veterinary clinics in the district of Villa El Salvador, and that is why prevention and control measures must be adopted to minimize the risk of contracting the disease in canines.
