Abstract

This article aims at analyzing the process of dehumanization suffered by Hecuba in the homonym Euripides' tragedy. We study the relationships between the animalization mechanisms and the monstrous representations in the context of the characterization of Hecuba as a woman whose vindictive desires lead to an infanticide. This analysis poses the hypothesis by which the character's metamorphosis can be conceived as a synecdoche of the Scylla monster.
