El término bárbaros: un análisis discursivo de los testimonios tempranos

Abstract

The paper reexamines individually the sparse pre-classical sources
containing the term bárbaros. The analysis of the extant archaic evidence
adopts a discursive approach –which encompasses morphosyntactic,
semantic and discourse-pragmatic features– in an attempt to shed light
on the still much-debated origin of the word bárbaros and, notably, on the
manifold semantic connotations the word bárbaros later acquires as its use
becomes pervasive in the aftermath of the Persian wars.
