Abstract

The scope of this article is the comparison of two metaphor's theories, the Aristotelian one and the Experientisalist Theory, proposed by G. Lakoff and M. Johnson (1980-1989-1999). We explain both theories and we discuss their theoretical foundations, in regard to the notions of reality, truth, comprehension, and metaphor cognitive value. We bring forward the difference between Aristotle metaphor theory and its classical interpretations and we study profoundly, from a theoretical evaluative perspective, the similarities and differences between the Aristotelian propositions and the contemporary cognitive theories.
