Abstract

The present article explores the relationship between Aristophanic comedy and biographical literature. Specifically, the paper highlights the close dependence of the latter on the former in the case of Aeschylus. The analysis focuses on a series of characteristics attributed to the playwright in Frogs, in order to demonstrate the importance this play has in the shaping of Aeschylus’ figure and his reception in the anonymous Vita accompanying the manuscripts of his preserved works. Furthermore, the study underscores the significance that the biographical framework has in the reception of classical literature in emphasizing its influence on the construction of its exponents.
