Towards an ethology of masculinities

Do we know what masculinities can do? Encounter between Deleuze, Guattari and Spinoza

Abstract

This article will address the question of "What can masculinities do?" from a feminist perspective that follows the ideas of Spinoza, Deleuze, and Guattari. To do so, we will conduct a reading of Spinoza's Ethics based on the philosophy of immanence, affects, and feminist adaptations of these authors. In this way, we seek to foster an understanding of masculinities as a culturally, socially, and historically constructed ex post facto as a man a priori in gender studies, opening up an alternative conceptualization of masculinities that moves away from morality and can be applicable to the social sciences and humanities in general.
