Author Guidelines

Guidelines for the submission of papers

• The call for papers is permanently open.

• Unpublished and original papers will be published, in Spanish and Portuguese, whose content is the result of the direct intellectual production of the authors and under the commitment not to submit the same text in parallel to another journal.

• The journal has the following sections: Articles, Reviews and Comments. Articles may not exceed 10,000 words, including notes, citations and bibliographical references. Bibliographic reviews and comments may not exceed 2,000 words. The Editorial Board reserves the right to consider the publication of articles and reviews that exceed these dimensions.

• Once accepted for publication, submitted papers may not be expanded or modified, except in editorial details.

• Within a maximum of 10 (ten) days, the author will receive confirmation of reception. Within a maximum of 30 (thirty) days, the author will be informed of the result of the first evaluation, i.e. the one referring to the formal aspects and the thematic relevance of the article. In a maximum of 90 (ninety) days, the author will be informed of the two reports obtained through the double-blind evaluation, and, if accepted, will be sent the corresponding certificate. The publication time of the article, both in its digital version and in its printed version, will depend on the number of papers received and accepted at that time by the Journal.

On the formal aspects

• Given that the journal has adopted the anonymous review system (known as "double-blind"), it is requested that the author's name and institutional affiliation do not appear in the article, but are included only on a separate page, in which authors should also include a brief CV (100-150 words) and provide their contact email address. The journal relies on the collaboration of external reviewers from outside the editorial team and the publishing institution.

• Articles must include an abstract in Spanish not exceeding 200 words and a list of up to 5 keywords, with their corresponding English translations (abstract and keywords). The paper title must also be submitted with its corresponding English translation.

- In order to facilitate the design of the Journal, a "personal" page size of 15.5 cm wide by 22.5 cm high is requested, with margins of 3 cm at the top, 2.5 cm below, 2.7 cm on the left and 1.6 cm on the right. The tools for this setup will be found in the "File/Page Setup" command in Word for Windows. The text body should be in Garamond font, size 11. Notes and bibliographical references will be placed at the end of the page in Garamond font, size 10. The interline spacing should be "single".

• The "citation-notation" reference system will be adopted, i.e. the details of any work that is cited for the first time must be included at the end of the page, as detailed below:

  • Books: Blumenberg, Hans, La legitimación de la Edad Moderna, Valencia, Pre-textos, 2008, p. 38.
  • Book Chapters: Rubistein, Nicolai, "Machiavelli and Florentine republican experience", en Gisela Bock y Quentin Skinner (eds.), Machiavelli and Republicanism, Cambridge, Cambridge University Press, 1990, p. 7 [3-16].
  • Articles: Matheron, Alexandre, "Le «droit du plus fort»: Hobbes contre Spinoza", Revue Philosophique, 2 (1985), p. 165 [149-176].

From the first quotation, books or articles will continue to be mentioned in a simplified way, referring only to the author, the title (abbreviated, if very long) and the page number. Example: Hans Blumenberg, The Legitimization of the Modern Age, p. 112

It is mandatory to include a Bibliography at the end of the paper with the list of references cited. The Bibliography will be ordered alphabetically by the surname of the authors and will have the same format as the first footnote mentioned above, but including, if necessary, additional information, such as the publisher or translator of the work. Example: Montaigne, Michel de (2007): Los ensayos (según la edición de 1595 de Marie de Gournay), traducción de Jordi Bayod Brau, Barcelona, Acantilado.

• The papers will be uploaded to the OJS platform of the Journal in its digital version (format ".doc" or ".odt").

• Papers should be sent already customized to the Journal's style guidelines. This will be the first condition of admissibility.

• TÓPICOS is not responsible for unpublished works, nor does it necessarily assume the opinions and criteria expressed therein.
