Abstract

Chagas disease is one of the main endemic illnesses affecting Latin American countries in general and Argentina in particular. The prevalence in the province of Santa Fe is not uniform throughout its territory, with the north of the province being a high-risk area, where there are large sectors of the population with low socioeconomic levels. Among the clinical forms of the chronic phase of this disease is heart disease, which is frequently associated with ventricular tachyarrhythmia and sudden death. This study aims is to prevent both complications mentioned above, through the use of an implanted cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), evaluating its indications and recommendations, its long-term effectiveness, and possible complications; applying it to a clinical case from the cardiology service of Cullen Hospital.
