Abstract

The main issue of this article concerns the understanding of the governance process of the El Tuparro Biosphere Reserve (RBT) situated in the border region between Colombia and Venezuela. Therefore, the objective of this article is to analyze the RBT´s environmental governance process and it is intended to investigate the management procedure and the possible problems related to this RB that interfere with environmental conservation. The methodological bases of this activity are based on qualitative research — field research and participant observation — employing documentary and bibliographic sources. In summary, it was revealed that there are several problems faced, especially due to the absence of a clear and efficient structure, which would allow to guide and clarify the responsibilities of each of the legal agents, but also by the presence of a variety of quite heterogeneous agents with different interests, putting the balance between conservation and development at risk.
