History and Present of University Extension: South–North Dialogues compiles and expands on the presentations made during the International Seminar of the same name, organized at the University of the Republic of Uruguay in 2022. Featuring experiences and reflections from authors in Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and the United States, the text is part of a collective effort to establish a global dialogue on university extension.
The book can be consulted by chapter or read as a whole, where dialogue serves as the central theme. This includes not only the dialogue between the Global South and North (both geographically and epistemically) but also the dialogue between past and present; the dialogue between research, teaching, and extension; the dialogue among universities in the Global South; the dialogue of knowledge; the dialogue between different university models; and the dialogue between university and society. Dialogue is presented as a constitutive element of extension.
