The article highlights the essential place of consumption in shaping the meaning of modern experience, looking closely at the suitable path shown by this articulation in Latin America. In this regard, the analysis refers to some interpretative proposals originated in the region, some of them critical and others generative, postulating, in the latter case, the need to conceive the consumption as an indispensable cultural dimension for democratic coexistence in our societies.
