The aim of this article is to analyze the representation of Argentine women inmigrants in fictional films produced in Spain between 2002 and 2010. We will focus on tracking the strategies and resources used by the films to shape the female characters, taking as a hypothesis that these constructions reinforce the prejudices that come from the real world. Moreover, we suggest to inquire about the historical context: Argentina’s 2001 economic, political and social crisis. We propose an interdisciplinary journey that weaves together gender, history, communication, and cinema. The corpus of films is made up of: Abrígate (Costafreda, 2007) and Pagafantas (Cobeaga, 2009).
