In this work we intend to analyze Alcides Greca’s ethnographic view in the filme El ultimo malón (1917). His focus is on the Mocoví community of San Javier, Santa Fe Province, Argentina, in the first half of the twentieth century. To do this, the political, ideological and academic elements of the time areresearched. These show aboriginal people as a subject of alterity in a process of construction and constitution of the Argentine Republic as a Nation–State. Also, weconsider the beginnings of the cinema in Argentina, the Greca’s performance as the director of the filme, and his possible work as an anthropologist. The value of the filme as an ethnographic document ishighlighted, and an approximation to the anthropological work isdonefindingsome similarities.
