After completing 155 years of the birth of the university extension, many institutions and, therefore, their university frameworks, continue to misunderstand the origin of their substantive function that is relevant to their management, or that results in an atomization of actions and issues that are not clearly framed in teaching and research functions. This situation reduces the potential of its action and possíveis transformative impacts in the territories.
This book describes the role played by different countries, networks and institutions of Higher Education, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean, for the recognition of extension as one of the three university functions, its typologies or fields of action, its current management and impact on construction of society.
