The article presents the results of the implementation of a didactic proposal whose purpose was to promote the development of social thinking skills in high school students through the use of artistic expressions as a historical source and as an expression of the study of their thinking skills, addressing The teaching of the period of Structural Transformations in Chile. The experience was analyzed in its planning and implementation results from the Design-Based Research model, looking for possibilities for improvement from reflection on practice. The results show the didactic potential of artistic creations to promote skills such as contextualization and historical empathy, and the risks of working the past from problems of social relevance in the present, to develop chronological temporal or continuity and change skills, do not guide them with relevant instructional designs.
